Ukrainian-born American conductor Taras Krysa has become a compelling artistic force whose work blends intellectual precision with bold, expressive intensity. His performances are recognized for their architectural clarity, emotional resonance, and a distinctive musical voice that continues to attract international attention.
Krysa serves as Director of Orchestras at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Music Director of the Las Vegas Sinfonietta, and Artistic Advisor to the Henderson Symphony Orchestra, where he has shaped ensembles known for innovative programming and a renewed commitment to artistic excellence. His earlier leadership of the Lviv National Philharmonic Orchestra of Ukraine marked a period of revitalization, expanded touring, and heightened international visibility for one of Eastern Europe’s historic institutions.
As a guest conductor, Krysa has led prominent ensembles including the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, Odesa National Philharmonic Orchestra, the Las Vegas Philharmonic, the Orchestra of the Americas, and others. Across these appearances, he has earned a reputation for performances that balance structural insight with expressive freedom — a combination that resonates strongly with both musicians and audiences.
Recent seasons have brought new international collaborations, multimedia projects, and expanded artistic initiatives in Southern Nevada. Under his direction, the Las Vegas Sinfonietta has grown into a distinctive regional voice, known for programs that connect classical tradition with contemporary creativity. His recordings for Brilliant Classics include orchestral works by Mozart and a live recording of Freddie Mercury’s rock opera Barcelona, reflecting his wide-ranging artistic curiosity and commitment to repertoire that crosses boundaries.
Before turning fully to conducting, Krysa performed as a violinist with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and the New World Symphony, experiences that shaped his deep understanding of orchestral culture and ensemble sound. Born into a distinguished musical family, he is the son of internationally renowned violinist Oleh Krysa, whose artistry and musical legacy helped shape Taras’s early artistic environment.
Krysa studied at the Manhattan School of Music, Indiana University, and Northwestern University, working with mentors including Victor Yampolsky, Michael Tilson Thomas, Jorma Panula, and David Zinman. In 2023, he received support and recognition from the Nevada Arts Council. Since then, he has expanded his work as a mentor and educator, guiding emerging conductors and orchestral musicians who now hold positions across the country. He continues to champion artistic growth, institutional development, and the next generation of musical leaders. Krysa lives in Henderson, Nevada, with his wife, violinist Nataliya Karachentseva.
